PSG-FRI Faculty at PIMS Pondicherry

The Learning Circle
“Pair and Share”
Democratic Leadership

Since it was directed to the senior faculty, sessions and tools familiar to FAIMER fellows were used. Appreciative Inquiry was used to “discover” and thus facilitate sharing of Good Teaching practices already being practiced in the institution but in isolation with other departments not being aware of the same.

The participants also got exposure to “Interactive Teaching” through demonstration of ways in which the traditional didactic lecture can be made interactive. The Session on Educational Research took the participants through the process of identification of a teaching-learning process which needs study so that it can be improved or how to generate evidence to show that it works. This made them realise that they too can do Education Research and it can help the institution to improve quality of student learning. Session on Change management made them use some of the tools required in the armamentarium of Educational Leaders.
Renu (2010 PSG-FRI Fellow) recalls the impression of one of her colleagues who attended the workshop: “I came thinking …. another boring lecture …… but what happened was that we learnt from each other.” Another faculty participant recalled “I did’nt know what (good teaching) our colleagues practised in their own department (but now I am familiar with many good teaching practices that I too can start in my department).” After the program ,Renu wrote “A big thank you from all of us to Dr. Ramalingam, Dr. Vimal and you (Dr Thomas Chacko). The participants are still raving about your sessions. You have really helped us and motivated us. I hope we can have such interactions again”.
